The summer school “Rethinking Gymnasiums” is dedicated to the pressing and ever-changing challenges in the planning of school spaces, especially sports halls. Our aim is to explore new urban planning and architectural approaches to meet the increasing and changing needs for sports facilities within existing building structures, and to do so in the context of urban transformation processes. As a think tank, we will develop innovative concepts that show what sports halls can represent in urban spaces in the future and where six new halls could be realized in the city of Biel as an example.
Participants will gain deep insights into the architecture of sports halls, an area that is often part of competition tasks. They will be trained in the application of systematic and analytical methods and scenario techniques to identify and evaluate new opportunities.
Participation includes two weeks of intensive project work in workshop form, supported by specialist lectures, project presentations, excursions, discussions and the presentation of results.
The course takes place during two weeks at a time. Full-day or half-day attendance and independent project work. KW 35/36
