SEMINAIRE S2 JMA-GE

Espaces urbains (EN)

Nestor Burma dans le 4ème arrondissement de Paris, Jacques Tardi

CONTENt

The seminar will delve into the concept of urban spaces through visits to iconic sites. A historical journey will highlight the evolving issues related to shared urban spaces, addressing today’s significant societal, environmental, economic, and identity challenges. We will explore a diverse range of urban areas, some undergoing significant transformation. These locations will serve as case studies for understanding this concept in various complex and dynamic contexts.

TEACHING AIMS

Through observation and drawing, students will learn to identify the elements that structure spaces. Theoretical sessions will cover current trends in urban space design, with a particular focus on public participation.

Preparatory assignments, completed before the seminar, will provide students with foundational knowledge to approach the seminar as a step toward validating their understanding.

The goal of the seminar is to comprehend the issues associated with various urban spaces and their design, both formal and functional, to develop contemporary solutions to today’s challenges.

TEACHING FORMS

Group and individual preparatory exercises, urban visits, lectures, sketching.

educational content development and coaching : Pauline Dellacherie, Alicia Escolar

As the number of places in S2 seminars organized by JMA-FR and JMA-GE is limited, the final allocation will be communicated during the first weeks of the semester. However, priority will be given to students who have not yet tackled the chosen themes, so that as many students as possible have the opportunity to tackle the proposed topics.
